Catch Up Tuesday!
Every Tuesday I will be writing a blog that uses an idea I’ve come across in the past. The Nerdy Girlie and Super Space Chick created a post series back in 2014 called ‘5 Fandom Friday’. As I’m starting fresh this year I’m going to do all the previous ones of this blog series that I missed out on as well as anything else that takes my fancy. I’ll also be staying up-to-date with this year’s post but they will come on Friday like they are intended!
This week I’m doing ‘5 Fandom Friday: Gateway Fandoms That Made Me Who I Am Today’ – first posted on October 3rd 2014.
5 Fandom Friday: Gateway Fandoms That Made Me Who I Am Today
For the people who know me this wouldn’t be at all a surprise. My wedding was mainly Harry Potter themed for Thor’s sake! Harry Potter was my first ever fandom. My sister began reading them before me but I joined the fun shortly after. Little did I know how consumed my life would become by the orphan who lived under the stairs. To be honest Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone bored me. I begged my sister to let me skip to Chamber of Secrets and that’s where my love really began. To this day it’s still my all time favourite book. The movies came shortly after and with The Chamber of Secrets movie another love was born… Rupert Grint. In 2010, my best friend Grace and I attended the premiere of Deathly Hallows Part 1 in London. One of the highlights of my life! Harry Potter stays with me to this day and I have no idea who I would be if I had never discovered it.
My love for Doctor Who began with David Tennant. I began watching with my family when it came back in 2005 but it wasn’t until Eccelston, in all his brilliant glory, regenerated into David Tennant that my obsession blossomed. David Tennant is my beloved Doctor. When I was in Cardiff in 2010 I made that love permanent with my very own Timelord tattoo. My dream in life is to be the first female Doctor.
A high school friend of mine introduced me to Supernatural when introduced her to Doctor Who. It’s safe to say we both became obsessed with the shows we were introduced to. Supernatural was like nothing I had seen before and it was amazing. I’m behind at the moment, I lost interest at one point around season 11 but not enough to give up on the show entirely. I plan on rewatching it all with the husband and that’s when I’ll catch up and get back into it. Supernatural also introduced me to a whole new level of fandom which is probably as intense as you can get.
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Not necessarily a fandom, at least not in the way I’ve experienced, but I was obsessed with these books. I sold my completed collection a few years ago and I’m still kicking myself! These were just amazing books and I wanted to know everything I could about Lemony Snicket, no matter how fictional he was. It makes my fangirl heart squeal in excitement for the series coming up this Friday!
When I was younger and reading a lot of Harry Potter fanfiction I came across a series of 3 novel length fanfictions that I instantly fell in love with. They were written by a woman who called herself Cassandra Clare. I followed her on various mediums and then she announced her non related Harry Potter books were getting published. I purchased it as soon as it came out in Australia and was blown away! I’ve kept as up to date with her work as I can and cannot wait for the release of her next book Lord of Shadows in May. I’m also obsessed with the TV show – the acting isn’t the best but I cannot get enough. My very first tattoo was an iratze and it’s so great seeing that symbol on the characters in the show!
